North Carolina-based CREE Inc. is building a billion-dollar factory near the New York community of Utica. The Mohawk Valley Fab, currently the world’s largest #siliconcarbide device manufacturing facility, was selected for the Golden Shovel Project of the Year Award by Area Development Magazine. The annual Golden Shovel Awards recognize states for their achievements in attracting high-value-added investment projects that will create a significant number of new jobs in their communities.
At Cree, the latest of many semi-conductor projects Jersen Construction Group has played a key role in building, Jersen has formed and placed over 60,000 cubic yards of concrete on site so far. That’s over 6,000 concrete trucks in just over a year! We’ve also performed heave civil work including earth moving, excavations, and underground utilities. According to the article by Area Development Magazine, the silicon carbide wafers to be produced at the Mohawk Valley, N.Y., plant will reduce the charging time and range of EVs and also be used in 5G infrastructure and solar inverters.
