Underground Chilled Water & Steam Piping

Project Description

SCOPE:

The Underground Chilled Water & Steam Piping project is located on the Harriman State Office Campus (Albany, NY) and included excavation and earthwork to support FPI Mechanical. The project involved clearing and grubbing of approximately 1 acre of land and mass excavation of excess material. The new chilled/steam pipe installation was complex and required both very deep and very wide trench excavations to accommodate the new piping that lays 5 pipes wide and ranges from 16” to 26” in diameter. It is a fully welded steel piping system with multiple layers of insulation and HDPE casing.

Along with 12,000LF of new chilled water and steam pipe, there were five large manholes (12’x12’x15’) set using cranes, and 1000LF of 20 & 30” casing pipe auger bored underneath the two Harriman State Campus ring roads. The project also involved de-watering of deep excavations, steel driven sheet piling, and numerous slide rail excavation protection systems.
